Summer Programs: Kansas City, MO
Overview
Our Kansas City Summer Program is designed with two primary objectives in mind: (1) give Summer Associates challenging and interesting work assignments that provide valuable experience and insight into the work conducted by our attorneys on a daily basis; and (2) provide social activities that allow the Summer Associates various opportunities to interact with our attorneys in an informal atmosphere, allowing them to gain a good perspective on the personal dynamics of our firm.
"Self-Tailored" Work Program
Our Summer Program has been described as a "self-tailored" program in which Summer Associates have the opportunity to work with the specific practice group(s) of the Summer Associate's choosing. Although some Summer Associates have a good idea what type of law they would like to practice before entering the Summer Program, it is not uncommon for a Summer Associate to lack a strong predilection for working in a certain practice area prior to gaining some exposure to the work that the specific practice groups perform. As such, we allow the Summer Associates to focus on the practice areas that most interest them.
Summer Associates gain valuable real world experience during their summer with us. Whether it be assisting in trial preparation, participating in a transactional closing, or attending a court hearing with other attorneys, the Summer Associate will obtain an accurate view of types of work that our attorneys routinely perform. At the end of the summer, the Summer Associate will understand and appreciate what is expected of an Associate Attorney.
Social Activities
Understanding that it is important for the Summer Associates to interact with our attorneys on both a professional and social basis, our Summer Program offers numerous opportunities for the Summer Associates to get to know the attorneys in a less formal environment.
It is also important to us that our Summer Associates have a summer filled with unique and fun activities that showcase both our firm and the Kansas City area. In order to accomplish this goal, events such as Royals games, a Boulevard Brewery tour, practice group dinners, and a road trip to St. Louis are scheduled each summer.
